Blackberry Ginger Gin Sour

A deliciously fruity sour with Monashee Ethos Gin

There’s just something so comforting about a sour cocktail, especially in the winter. This blackberry ginger sour packs a whole lot of flavour in to one cup! Not everyone in the shop is super keen on eggs in their drink so we made this sour vegan by using aquafaba instead of egg whites. Enjoy!

Our Cup of Choice: Short Halcyon Cups

We used a pastel version of our halcyon cups. The light pinks and purples complimented the dark pink hue of this drink. We wanted to use a short glass for this one because there is no ice or soda to fill up the cup.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 oz Lemon Juice

  • 1/2 oz Aquafaba (chickpea water)

  • 2 oz Monashee Spirits Ethos Gin

  • 3/4 oz Blackberry Ginger Simple Syrup*

We started this cocktail by making some freshly squeezed lemon juice with one of our Citrus Reamers. Add about 3/4 oz of this lemon juice to your cocktail shaker. Then add 1/2 oz of aquafaba (the juice from a can of chickpeas, I know it sounds weird but trust us!) If you’re looking for a more traditional sour using egg then use one eggwhite here instead of the aquafaba.

Dry shake - Put the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake away. Keep shaking for about 2 minutes, the more shake, the frothier your drink will be.

Now add the remaining ingredients to your cocktail mixer. Fill your shaker about 3/4 full with ice. Shake again for another 2 minutes. Strain your cocktail by pouring your mix into a fine mesh cocktail strainer over top of your Halcyon Cup. Tap the shaker on the side of the strainer to get all the the goods out of the strainer!

*To make the blackberry ginger syrup add about a 1/2 cup of blackberries and a small knuckle of ginger to your saucepan. Add a 1/2 cup water and a 1/2 cup sugar. Heat until just boiled and then cool before you use.

Garnish:

  • Blackberries

  • Bitters

Add three drops of bitters slightly apart from each other right on top of the froth of your cocktail. Then take a tooth pick and run through the centre of each drop to make a heart shape. Add a blackberry or two on a toothpick for the final touch! Voila, you have yourself a vegan blackberry ginger sour!!

Cheers
