Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if my glass breaks at home?

Unfortunately, glass is brittle and can break with forces like dropping or smashing against other glass, or by extreme heat. It happens to the best of us! We do not offer refunds on pieces broken at home, and we are not able to repair broken items.

How do I care for my handblown glass?

With proper care, your Big Eddy Glass Works items should last years! Handblown glass is actually thicker and stronger than most industrial glass. We recommend hand washing your glassware in warm soapy water. If you must use the dishwasher, please do so on the top rack only and ensure it’s not touching anything else in the dishwasher to avoid breakage.

All hand blown glass items are sensitive to heat, so they are not suitable for serving very hot liquids. Any abrupt exposure to extremely hot or cold temperatures might cause cracking or breakage.

What if my glass breaks during shipping?

Although this is rare, if an item breaks during shipment we will replace it at our expense as soon as possible.

How do items ship?

We offer free shipping to Canada or the United States on orders over $200 CAD. For orders under $200, we’ll apply a flat rate shipping fee of $20. International shipping is also available. The customer pays shipping, duties, fees, customs and taxes; please contact us for a quote. We carefully pack our items to prevent accidental breakage. Because each online order is made to order, we’ll need between five and ten business days to make and ship the item.

Why doesn’t my item look just like the pictures?

Because each item is handmade from the raw materials to the finishing details, we hope you can embrace the differences between pieces—that’s what makes hand blown glass special. Variations in colour and tolerance are an expected part of the glass blowing process. Sizes listed on the website are approximate, which means the finished piece will be close to the specified size but might not be exactly the same. Tiny bubbles may also appear inside the glass as a part of the crafting process.

Do you accept custom orders?

Yes we do! If you see something on our website that you’d like customized, we’d be happy to talk to you about it. Custom orders outside of our normal style and production require design, prototyping, and experimentation, which all take time and will cost more. We do lots of custom orders and have also done large scale custom projects featuring blown glass combined with other mediums. We might not be able to say yes due to our regular production schedule, but we’d certainly love to talk to you about any ideas you might have for custom work.

Can I come watch you blow glass?

Yes, our studio is open to the public during our business hours. Our hot shop is attached to the store so you can watch our glassblowers working.
